May 2025
Copernicus Sentinel satellites to further incorporate data from peatland restoration and Hydrology image overlays.
Enquire about further data sources with Dr Stephanie Evers, Jamie Lawson and Alex Hubberstey to see if there is any available data I can get access to or if there are any ongoing projects that monitor plant population.
March 2025 – May 2026
My bog in the box is part of the sensory element of my exhibition next year. The plants have been sourced thanks to Alex Hubberstey at LPP. They are still growing, but Alex has given me instructions for the box requirements, and I can collect the sphagnum moss and cotton grass in early May 2025. The box will be kept and home and grown over next year.
February 2025 - June 2025
The bog blanket is a work in progress, and a new natural fabric experiment will develop later as my project progresses, although the first experimental piece will be finished soon.
May 2025 - August 2026
Upskilling in the biology of peatlands to improve knowledge of plants and animals of peatland will provide opportunities in the future, for example, a knowledge of alien plant species provides an opportunity to make my own paper or biomaterials from a pulp made by using discarded invasive plant material, adding another layer to the sustainability of my project
April 2025 – August 2025
Lidar scan data points have the potential to be included in further cinematographic work alongside the GCI mycelium growth and Time-lapse photography. Identification of any technology required to do this, and images or data to be gathered at the next site visit, so I can experiment with the process.
April 2025 – September 2025
Time-lapse photography of mycelium needs box to control the light. This will be made and kept at Spinners Mill studio, so it will be completed in the summer months due to the fluctuation in temperatures at the mill in winter.
May 2025 – October 2025
Similarly, I am interested in the mycology of peatlands. Kitson and Bell, (2021) highlighted the need for further research on microbial communities within peatland, particularly what impact they have on rewetted and drying soils. I need training in order to identify the mycelium I have cultivated and what their relationships are to peatlands, if any.
March 2025 - December 2025
CGI Mycelium/animation and AI growth are all experimental aspects that could potentially be included in my project, but I have not confirmed yet. It needs time to learn some of the skills required and time to create, so it will be an ongoing experiment.
June 2025 - April 2026 (decision to be finalised by December 2025)
Thought needs to be given to how I display my video footage; I have always envisioned that it will be projected onto materials related to peatland restoration. Consideration also needs to be given to soft sculpture and performative aspects that could arise because of experiments with materials. However, it could be over ambitious and only one of these might be possible in the given timeframe, meaning a compromise might have to be made on what to include in the final exhibition.
January 2025 - April 2026
Visual research for my project is a work in progress, and many areas are evolving with the project, such as cinematography, but I will continue to edit these as I go to ensure that each video captures a single place in time. This is the approach I have taken so far, and I would like to continue this, although there will be a point towards the end of the project where I will want to create a cinematic sequence, visual collage and edited compilations.
